Description
Major General William Hood Simpson was recently promoted from the rank of Brigadier General to his current title. He will be leaving his job as the commander in Camp Wolters for a post at Camp Robinson, succeeding Major General Ralph E. Truman in the 35th Division command. There, General Simpson will command a tactical unit of 316 selectees who received basic training at Camp Wolters. While General Simpson is thrilled to head a tactical unit, the news came bitter sweet. Camp Wolters is in the same county where he grew up and near the farm where his mother still lives. Taking command as interim leader of Camp Wolters is Colonel Henry C. McLean. General Simpson is sitting at his desk dressed in his military uniform. Published in the Fort Worth Star-Telegram morning edition, October 7, 1941.
