Sheriff A. B. Carter, Mrs. E. H. Pope (Lena Pope Home), George J. Kreyenbuhl (St. Teresa's Home) and Mrs. Joe Kingsbery (All Church Home), conferring (left to right). Image appeared in "Slot Machines Pay Jackpot to Charity," Star-Telegram Evening Edition October 7, 1941. The organizations each received $25 checks together with the Fort Worth Press Santa Pals and the Star-Telegram Goodfellows Fund and Free Milk and Ice Fund. The $150 was derived from the sale of material salvaged from 165 slot machines, marble boards, and other gambling devices confiscated by the sheriff's forced during the last four years and recently ordered by Justice of the Peace Brown to be sold with the proceeds going to the six charitable funds.
