Description
While most residents of Fort Worth, Texas, are spending Labor Day weekend relaxing and enjoying the outdoors, members of the Texas Defense Guard are working. They are gathering in a downtown garage to clean the Enfield rifles supplied by the United States Army. The rifles have been packed in thick grease for years and need to be cleaned before they can be used. Cleaning the 30-caliber rifles, left to right, are Captain Ralph A. Grogan, Private W. E. Hines, Captain J. B. Calder, Corporal Joe J. Johnson and Private V. O. Coggins. Captain Grogan is the commanding officer of Company B. He is wearing a long-sleeve shirt and trousers. Private Hines, Company A, is dressed in a short-sleeve shirt and trousers. Captain Calder, Company A commander, is wearing a button-up shirt and trousers. Corporal Johnson, Company A, is dressed in a hat, short-sleeve shirt, and trousers. Private Coggins, Company A, is wearing a striped short-sleeve shirt and trousers. There are several unidentified men standing in the background and two automobiles are parked outside the garage.
