The soldiers are sitting in the grass, aiming machine rifles. Knelt down behind them is Sergeant Tom B. Gallaher Junior, from Chicago, Illinois. Private Perez is more hidden in the grass than his counterpart Private Prindle. All are wearing their military uniform and small brimmed hats.
