Description

Howard Houston Stuart, a Tarrant County pioneer, is celebrating his seventy-fifth birthday. Mr. Stuart arrived in Fort Worth, Texas on New Years Eve 1869 by an ox cart with his parents and turned down a ride on the first train into Fort Worth. His family came from Staunton, Virginia. His mother was a cousin of President Woodrow Wilson and father was a cousin of General (Gen.) J. E. B. Stuart, of Civil War fame. He is shown standing against a wall, dressed in a three piece suit and wearing eyeglasses. Mr. Stuart is one of the city's oldest, active salesman. He will observe the birthday by making the rounds of the same flour customers he has served for 31 years. Mrs. Stuart and their daughter, Mrs. Bert Phillips will hold open house Sunday for the veteran salesman. Published in the Fort Worth Star-Telegram morning edition, February 14, 1940.
