Ballard was driving south, immediately behind the truck and trailer of Joe Baggs. A truck, being towed north by a Fort Worth Rendering Company truck, broke loose and veered across the highway, first colliding with Baggs' machine and then with Ballard's car. Baggs was uninjured.
