Description
George L. Russell Junior (Jr.) of Philadelphia is pictured here. He is shown standing inside a store, wearing a leather jacket, western style hat and a scarf. Behind him are rows of Royal Stetson hat boxes. He is the president of the John B. Stetson Company. He is visiting Texas and recalled that the first broad-brimmed hats sold in the United States were made by the founder of the Stetson firm shortly after the Civil War and were sold in Texas from whence their popularity spread throughout the West. Published in the Fort Worth Star-Telegram morning edition, November 9, 1940.
