Description
A scene at the James E. Guinn Junior High School as African American eligibles for conscription lined up Wednesday morning to sign for military service. Alberta Majors Ward, one of the registrars, is shown filling out the card of John Estes Sharp, 31, of 1326 St. Louis Avenue, a WPA (Works Progress Administration) worker and father of six children. Waiting his turn in line behind the chair is Antonio Maceo Dodd, 35, another WPA worker. A part of the throng of African American men waiting to register can be seen in the background. . Other in line are Johnnie Booker, Jesse Bogan, Roosevelt Jackson, Willie Junior Washington, Eugene Parks, L. C. Hooper, Allen Clinton Wicks, Louis Walton Morris, R. L. Beavers, and Homer Goins.
