Description
J. M. Daugherty, 90, a veteran cowboy, is in Fort Worth, Texas, visiting his daughter, Mrs. Marcel A. Legros. He is pictured in an antique armchair, dressed in a three-piece suit. In 1867, when Mr. Daugherty was 17 years old, he bought 500 head of mavericks, then costing 75 cents a head in Texas. He then drove the cattle to Kansas, where they sold for $15 a piece. This was the first of nine cattle drives Daugherty staged in successive years.
