Greater Pan-American Hereford Show.,Dallas, Texas. "Bud" the grand champion steer shown with champion banner. Standing behind the steer are, left to right, Joe Ben Whitaker, the Clay County 4H Club boy who fed the animal, Ben Whitaker, father of the winning feeder and J.L. Rice, Clay County farm agent who directed the feeding. The steer brought the young owner $2,040 in the auction plus award as first in his class and as champion. The steer was bred by Brown & Davis, Throckmorton County ranchers. Published in the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, November 17, 1944.
