Description
Mrs. W. C. Gray and W. C. Gray, shopping for shoes. "With three sons in the Marines- one a Jap prisoner- and another son in the Navy, a 49-year-old Fort Worth war worker Thursday enlisted in the Navy Seabees 'to help his boys.' He is W. C. Gray of 315 East Weatherford. He has been employed at Convair for 10 months. Thursday he was sent by the Navy recruiting office here to Dallas. 'I felt if I could get over there in the Pacific maybe I could be a little more help to my boys and get a chance to slap hell out of a Jap or two," he said. His oldest son, Oscar, 27, is a Marine lieutenant stationed 'somewhere in the Pacific.' Pete, a 25-year-old Marine sergeant, is now in New York after 55 months at Pearl Harbor. He was there during the Jap attack, but escaped injury. A third Marine is Martin Lewis, 21, who was taken prisoner at Shanghai December 8, 1941, and who has not been heard from since. The youngest of the family is Billy, 18, who is in the Navy at Mare Island, California. Gray farmed at Haslet for several years before moving to Fort Worth six years ago. Until he was employed at Convair he worked in a grocery store at 216 East Belknap."
