Description

The 1943 Golden Gloves season is concluding with the national fights at the Chicago Tournament of Champions. Squaring off in the quarterfinals of the lightweight division, left to right, are Roger Welty and Hubert Gray. Welty is representing his hometown of Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Gray, of Wichita Falls, Texas, is one of several Texans competing in the tournament. Gray is shown throwing his right arm in the air to block a left from his opponent. In the same motion he is stepping in with a left to Welty's chin.
