Description
First arrivals at Camp Wolters in Mineral Wells, Texas receive drill instructions; pictured is a unit of 181 African-American troops upon arrival to Camp Wolters from Fort Sill in Lawton, Oklahoma. The clipping reads "Eight hours after the first group of selectees arrived Tuesday [March 11, 1941] at Camp Wolters, Mineral Wells, they were receiving drill instruction. The first contingent to reach the infantry replacement center was a unit of 181 negroes. Fourteen hundred white selectees are en route to the camp."
