Description
Kathy Goble, polio patient in a tank respirator, also known as an iron lung, getting oxygen from Nurse Frances Herog, while another nurse, Irene Fencl and an attendant fit her into a portable iron lung. In the picture Kathy is being helped into the portable Iron lung from a flat bed by nurses and other healthcare professionals. There are some staff observing while others are occupied with other tasks. Kathy was transferred from City-County Hospital to Harris Memorial Methodist Hospital and has lived in an "iron lung" for more than seven months since being stricken with polio.
