Description
The United States Marines had their hands full in Fort Worth, Texas, when 23 young men visited the recruiting office in the Federal Courthouse with the desire to become "leathernecks." Here is how the office looked at 2 p.m., as Recruiting Sergeants J. H. McDaniel, seated at typewriter, and R. L. Malone (taking chest measurements) rushed the record-breaking number through their examinations. Fifteen were accepted. Twelve of the applicants are shown in the picture, six seated, three standing at the back and two waiting for their chest measurements after Malone is done with one applicant. There is a poster advertising enlistment into the Marines on the wall at left. The text on the poster reads: "Always First In The Defense Of America Enlist Today U. S. Marines U. S. Courthouse Fort Worth."
