Reverend Bert Helm, pastor of Saint John's Evangelical Church, left, examining a native boat as he talks with his friends, Reverend and Mrs. Pierre Benignus, with whom he worked while island commander of chaplains in New Caledonia during World War II. Reverend Benignus is a French missionary. Rev. Helm appears to be wearing a brown suit, white collared shirt, and a tie. Mrs. Benignus is wearing a plaid skirt with a belt, a short sleeve white collared shirt with a handkerchief on her left pocket and Rev. Benignus is wearing a black suit with a white collared shirt and a tie. There is a sea painting hanging in the wall behind them and a bookshelf to the left of Rev. Helm.
