Description
Walter Sykes is retiring from his position as a railroad engineer, after nearly fifty years of service. He is a veteran of the Rock Island Lines and remembers the days of coal and oil burners when he finished a run covered with grime and grease. The last few years he has sat at the throttle of a diesel-electric, allowing Mr. Sykes to safely wear a white cap. Mr. Sykes is shown working inside a cabin during his final ride before retirement. He is dressed in a cap, striped button-up shirt, necktie, and trousers. Published in the Fort Worth Star-Telegram evening edition, November 5, 1946.
