    Description

    Charles E. Roach is a former aviation machinist's mate 2nd class, is going to "get the works". "The works" will be given Roach when he attends the ceremonies formally activating Fort Worth's peacetime Navy Reserve Battalion at Fort Worth Boat Club. The activation program is part of the observance of Navy Day in Fort Worth. To Roach getting "the works" will mean the receipt of the Distinguished Flying Cross, Air Medal, Gold Star in lieu of the second and third air medals and four citations the nature of which has not been disclosed tot he 23 year-old former PB4Y crewman. Roach already has the Presidential Unit Citation given his Navy Air Corps outfit, VB-104, and can wear the American Theater and Asiatic Pacific Theater ribbons. During his 43 months in the service Roach saw action in the battles at New Georgia, Bougainville, Bismarck Archiepelago, the Gilberts and Corolines. Roach and his wife and their nine-month-old son, Robert Earl, live at 1-16 Barclay. Roach is in training as a butcher at the Lovelace Grocery. His mother, Mrs. C. W. Roach, lives at 1514 Lee.
