Description
A few years ago 26-year-old Wesley Engquist decided that paralysis of his legs suffered as a child wasn't going to narrow his horizon and keep him confined to his home. He propelled himself into Fort Worth in his dusty wheel chair, making a total of 4,300 miles he has traveled since August 15 on his latest tour of the country. Starting from his home in Fremont, Nebraska, Engquist has visited Idaho, Wyoming, Oregon, California, Arizona, New Mexico and Texas on his trip, which is the 16th such junket he has made since taking to the highways in his wheel chair. Engquist usually gets picked up by truck drivers before he gets very far along the highway. His longest stretch wheeling himself along by hand on this trip was 165 miles without a lift. While in Fort Worth he is visiting his brother, Oliver Engquist. In this picture, he is sitting on a wheel chair and pose for a picture. Published in the Fort Worth Star-Telegram morning edition, October 22, 1946.
