Description
Mr. and Mrs. Clifford T. Ayres went to Manila in 1941 for a firm which had the contract for construction work at Cavite Naval Base. Mr. Ayres was captured by the Japanese on New Year's Day 1942, and Mrs. Ayres four days later. His weight dropped from 222 pounds to 128 and hers from 132 to 76. After thirty-seven months in an internment camp as a prisoner of the Japanese, both Mr. and Mrs. Ayres are healthy again. Mr. Ayres plans to work in the Philippines as a civilian engineer. He will leave for the islands on a boat from San Francisco, California. His wife will meet him when living facilities permit. Mr. Ayres is sitting in a chair wearing a suit.
