    Description

John Van Cuyk, a heft southpaw from Wisconsin, joined the Fort Worth Cats. He spent Spring Training with the Brooklyn Dodgers before being sent down to their Minor League Affiliate. Last season, Van Cuyk tried out for the Paramount Studio's semi-pro team while he was stationed with the Military Police in California. Van Cuyk had an impressive run with the team. In 35 starts, he won 31 and had 530 strikeouts in 302 innings. He was previously affiliated with the Cleveland Indians in 1940 and 1941, but they dropped him when he joined the Army. Van Cuyk is standing on LaGrave Field, wearing a double breasted pinstripe suit.
