    Description

Soil erosion is plaguing select areas in Wise, Montague, Jack, Parker, and Tarrant Counties. A grove of once thriving pecan trees are shown in a small valley three miles northeast of Alvord, Texas. The gradually accumulating sand has risen to a height of seven or eight feet, nearly reaching the fork in the trees. Due to the erosion, the trees are sparsely leafing this spring and will be dead in a few more seasons. Their destruction is an example of unchecked erosion in an upper Trinity River area.
