Description

A medal awarded to his grandfather for participation in the Mexican War of 1846 as a member of the 2nd Ohio Infantry is in the possession of Doctor Robert Hamilton Needham. The medal was won by Robert B. Lucas of Ohio, who later served as a captain in the Union Army in the Civil War. The award was presented to Lucas through the National Association of Veterans and bears engraved names of the battles in which he participated--Cherubsco, Chepultepec, San Pascual, Tobasco, Vera Cruz, Palo Alto, Buena Vista and Cerro Cordo. It also bears the names of the three American generals of the war--Perry, Scott and Taylor.
