Description
Lieutenant (junior grade) John Alexander, on terminal leave at the home of his parents Mr. and Mrs. R. M. Alexander, 3208 Hemphill. He attended Polytechnic High School and Texas Christian University. The 28-year-old Fort Worth officer served on the destroyer USS (United States Navy Ship) Marshall. He participated in 12 invasions and two big sea battles in the Pacific as gunnery officer on the destroyer. Lieutenant (Lt.) Alexander saw everything from invasions to sea battles, to typhoons. He is wearing a button-up shirt tucked into trousers as he leans against the fireplace. There is a picture of him in his Navy uniform on the mantle and a picture of a ship at sea hanging over the fireplace. Published in the Fort Worth Star-Telegram morning edition, January 2, 1946.
