Description
Private First Class Tony Martin, left, and Private First Class Donald Nott, whose homes were endangered by the bombing of Pearl Harbor, will remember the fourth anniversary of the attack, because it was the day they saw their first Christmas tree in five years. After the Pearl Harbor bombing, no more Christmas trees were imported to Hawaii as shipping space was needed for more vital materials. The two worked in the Navy Yard at Pearl Harbor until March of 1945 when they entered the Army. After hearing of the attack, Pfc. Nott reported to a first aid station at Hickam Field and helped for 72 straight hours. Pfc. Martin worked three days at the devastated machine shop in the Navy Yard. They are shown standing against a bare wall, each wearing their military uniforms.
