Description
Throwing basket balls through the hoop for Texas Wesleyan College; Martin Vasquez, was shot down in enemy territory while making his 13th mission with the 15th AAF on May 31, 1944. The 23 year old veteran served as an engineer- gunner on a B-24 until his ship was shot down in Yugoslavia. Vasquez bailed out and landed on a side of a hill. Vasquez enlisted in the Army Air Corps in 1941 and was sent overseas in April 1944. He was a technical sergeant in the army and was awarded the DFC but to TWC students he is better known as "hot rock" of the basketball team. In the picture you can see Mr. Vasquez appears to be wearing a suit, a striped shirt, and a tie. He is standing in front of a wall.
