D. D. Brown, left, 38-year-old former private first class and gunner in the Army Air Corps, was discharged and came home October 29 to find his wife and two children living in two unfurnished rooms without cooking facilities. Standing beside him is his wife. The Browns have two children, James Davis and Joyce LaValle, 7. Mr. Brown spent three years, one month and 17 days in service and won these awards: nine battle stars, the Purple Heart with three clusters, Bronze Star, Good Conduct Medal and American Theater ribbon with two stars. Mr. Brown is one of more than 1,700 World War II veterans who are in need of adequate housing in Fort Worth, Texas. He is wearing a collared shirt, necktie, trousers and jacket. His wife is wearing a blouse, skirt and coat.
