Description
Standing left to right are Bert M. Smith, 21, who served two years Atlantic patrol duty and who can find no more space for his wife and two small children than two-room quarters; Robert Degge, 21, who had to move his wife in with his parents and who was discharged after 37 months in service, mostly in the Southwest Pacific; and B. W. Mason, 27, who has a service record of three years and four months and who has three inadequate rooms for his mother and 24-year-old sister, Pearl Mason. These are three of more than 1,700 World War II veterans who are in need of adequate housing in Fort Worth, Texas. They are standing against a bare wall. Mr. Smith is wearing a sweater over collared shirt and necktie, a coat and trousers. Mr. Degge is wearing a button-up shirt, jacket and trousers, and Mr. Mason is wearing a striped, three-piece suit.
