Description
Doctor Eddy Asirvatham, head of the department of political science and public administration at the University of Madras, India, told Junior Chamber of Commerce members Wednesday that India had made great progress during British rule. Dr. Asirvatham added, however, that leaders of Indian thought believed that sufficient progress had not been made in agriculture and cattle raising, public health, mass education, and industrial self-sufficiency. Independence rather then dominion status, with the friendliest possible alliance with Great Britain, will accomplish the greatest good, because India is not the cultural daughter of Great Britain, was the opinion of Dr. Asirvatham. "The problem is difficult but insoluble," he concluded. In the picture he appears to be wearing a traditional Indian Kurta.
