Labor Day weekend. Picnic group, left to right, Mrs. Robert Sconce, Sergeant Robert W. Sconce, Mrs. Herbert L. Slack, Sergeant Herbert L. Slack and Mark Curtis Sconce. The group is shown gathered around a picnic blanket and a watermelon that Slack is cutting up. Sconce and Slack are both dressed in their military uniforms while their wives wear shorts and trousers and short-sleeve blouses. Small Mark wears a pair of overalls as he looks on at Slack cutting the watermelon. On the picnic blanket are small bags and a few plates laid out. Next to Mrs. Sconce is a woven picnic basket and a parked car. Mrs. Sconce is looking on at the camera and smiling while the others look on at Slack.
