Wade Elam re-reads Japanese surrender terms which will free his son, Richard, from a Japanese prison camp. He has not heard from his son, a Navy seaman, former member of the cruiser Houston crew, since January. He is sitting in a chair, reading a newspaper. He is wearing a collared shirt, necktie, trousers and eyeglasses.
