Description

David Lee Maddox, 16-year-old, son of Mr. and Mrs. E. P. Maddox Junior, was preparing to pack his Marine uniform in mothballs and resume his studies at Paschal High School after a two months' fling in the Marine Corps under an assumed name. He left for Oklahoma June 1 telling his parents about work in the oil fields, however, he borrowed a birth certificate from a friend and enlisted in the Marines under that name. He has been taking basic training at Parris Island, South Carolina, and lacked just 10 days of completing his course when authorities became suspicious, checked and found his real name and age. David is six-footer and looks several years older than his 16 years. David is in Marine uniform in the half length photograph. After finishing high school, David plans to attend Texas A&M College, and hopes to be a veterinary doctor. Published in the Fort Worth Star-Telegram evening edition, August 13, 1945.
