Description
Mr. and Mrs. W. W. Wright, jailer and assistant jailer who were present at the location where the murder of Mrs. Minnie Laura Lowrie took place. Wright also is the justice of the peace in whose court the murder charge against Lowrie was filed. Mrs. Minnie Laura Lowrie found death on the steps of the front porch of her Bosque County farm home by her husband, Littleton O. Lowrie. Lowrie told officers he found his wife near the porch dying, and believes she fell off the porch. He maintained that he has no idea how she was injured unless she fell as she was leaving the front porch and her head struck a flower pot on one of the steps. Lowrie said he arose early Monday and had walked out into the backyard. Returning to the house, he went to the kitchen expecting his wife to be there preparing breakfast. When he did not find her there, he walked on through the house and onto the front porch to discover his wife prostrated on the steps and bleeding profusely from a wound on her head. He said she still was gasping for breath. He brought some water and bathed her face and then attempted to lift her from the steps and into the house but he couldn't lift her because she weighed 230 pounds. Lowrie said he tied a small piece of rope to one of Mrs. Lowrie's wrists as he half lifted, half dragged her into the house, through a front bedroom and onto a back porch. Officers had found blood stains all along the path that Lowrie said he had taken his wife's unconscious form. He said he telephoned a neighbor who lives a half mine away and when she arrived she phoned for a doctor who pronounced Mrs. Lowrie dead.
