Description
It was the first watermelon they had tasted since they went overseas, so Sergeant Lutner Ott, left, of Houston, Texas, and Private Bill Utz, of Tyler, Texas, split the 30-pound fruit between themselves. They bought the melon when the "sleep-shift" troop stopped in Fort Worth, Texas, for inspection. The servicemen are shown leaning out of the windows of a train, holding their watermelon halves. Two unidentified men are also leaning out of windows at the far left, facing away from the camera. They are all wearing their military uniforms.
