Description
Shown here is a scarecrow in the garden of the Fort Worth Public Library. This pink-suited city dandy presides over a 10x100 garden patch of black-eyed peas, tomatoes, green beans and okra on property just behind the Fort Worth Public Library at Throckmorton and 9th Streets. The victory plot and it's scarecrow overseer were created by the library's first African American porter, James Robinson, an employee since 1921. Published in the Fort Worth Star-Telegram morning edition, July 9, 1945.
