Description
Over 300 Texas soldiers of the famed 86th 'Black Hawk' Division were excited to hit the soil of their home state when their special troop train paused recently at Texas and Pacific Station (T&P Station), Fort Worth, Texas, en route from Camp Kilmer, New Jersey, to Fort Sam Houston. Captain (Capt.) J. K. Arthur of Dallas, left, and Captain (Capt.) Berlin Compton of Italy, right, are pictured here. They are standing side by side at the T&P station and smiling for the camera. Both are dressed in uniforms. Behind them is the train. Captain (Capt.) Arthur was in charge of the train. Captain (Capt.) Compton is the son of Mr. and Mrs. W. A. Compton. His wife is the former Miss Jane Sims of Gainesville. Published in the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, morning edition, June 22, 1945.
