Description
New national defense posters urging enlistment in the United States Army went up at the recruiting office in Fort Worth, Texas. Corporal Leo Bird, right, son of Mr. and Mrs. L. I. Bird of Lake Worth, Texas, who enlisted more than a year ago, and a new recruit, Blake Ivan Weller, of Akron, Ohio, are looking at a recruitment poster pinned on a wooden door at right. The poster reads "Defend Your Country," at the top, with a depiction of Uncle Sam and an eagle in the center in front of a background of stars and stripes. Text at the bottom says "Enlist Now in the United States Army." Corporal Bird is wearing his military uniform and Mr. Weller is wearing a suit. Corporal Bird is stationed at the Rock Island Arsenal in Illinois. Weller was assigned to an artillery unit at Fort Sill, Oklahoma, by Recruiting Sergeant Homer T. Cummings.
