Seaman 1st Class R. E. Corbell, 19, stopped off in Fort Worth and came by the Star-Telegram and asked that his thanks be given to "generous Fort Worth ctizens. "Last year I was in a naval hospital in San Diego and the fellows there and I were lonesome. We wanted some music. We wanted harmonicas. That was what I wrote my sister in Fort Worth," Seaman Corbell related. His sister, Mrs. R.C. Wooley, asked the Star-Telegram to help her find a harmonica explaining that her search for one had been fruitless. Fort Worth citizens responded. Mrs. Wooley sent the collection to Corbell and his fellow patients. Corbell is visiting his sister while on a 27-day leave after spending more than eight months in combat duty in the Central Pacific. He will also visit his parents, Mr. and Mrs. C.E. Corbell of Christoval, Texas. He attended high school at Eola, Texas. An aviation ordnanceman on an aircraft carrier, he took part in bombardment raids on Iwo Jima and the Japanese mainland. Photograph of Seaman 1st Class Corbell wearing his military uniform.
