Description

Tense drama against a military background characterized the presentation of the nation's highest award, the Congressional Medal of Honor, to the widow of a Texas hero, Staff Sargent George D. Keathley of Lamesa, Texas, April 11 afternoon on Scott Hill parade ground at Camp Wolters at a retreat parade. The family of Staff Sergeant Keathley pose after the parade, left to right: W. C. Leberman, Olney, Texas, an uncle; John A. Keathley, Lawton, Oklahoma, a brother; Mrs. W. F. Keathley of Olney, Texas, the mother; W. F. Keathley, the father; General Bruce Magruder, commanding the Infantry Replacement Training Center, who presented the medal; Mrs. Geneva Keathley of Lamesa, Texas, and the two daughters, Helen Joy Keathley and Paula Jean Keathley.
