Description
Portrait in uniform of Seaman first class Verlon Eugene Hendon, who was stationed on a cruiser that participated in 24 major engagements beginning with the Marshalls, through the Marianas and Philippines, and ending in Japanese waters near Tokio. He was the spotter for a 25-man crew that manned four 40-mm. antiaircraft guns. The only time he went ashore while on fleet duty was when the ship docked in the Palaus for a few hours. He also is visiting his parents Mr. and Mrs. M. L. Hendon before returning to the West Coast. He was graduated from Tolar High School and worked in San Antonio before entering service.
