Description
W. B. "Bert" Cowan is retiring from the Rock Island Rocket. He has completed 50 years as a railroad employee with Rock Island. He began his employment in 1895 on a coal-burning steam train capable of 25-miles-an-hour and ended on a diesel-powered stream-liner with maximum speed of 100 miles per hour. A majority of his 50 years was spent as a passenger conductor. Mr. Cowan is shown sitting on a chair, dressed in a suit.
