Description
Leroy Pointer and three friends took a row boat down the Trinity River, Sunday afternoon. They were near the Holly pumping station at Clear Fork of the Trinity River when their boat began taking on water. Leroy, sixteen, swam to shore after the boat sank. He went back into the cold river to assist eleven year old David Whitaker, who was unconscious. David's brother, Herbert Whitaker, fifteen, drowned in the river. Leroy is shown at St. Joseph's Hospital where he is receiving treatment for shock. An unknown woman is standing behind him. The fourth boy, Johnny Janes is also receiving treatment at St. Joseph's. Published in the Fort Worth Star-Telegram morning edition, February 5, 1945.
