    Description

The arraignment for the Branson Kidnapping Case is being held January 23, 1945. Eighteen-year old Mrs. Melba Branson is being charged in the kidnapping of infant Milly McGill. At the time of the kidnapping, the baby's parents, Mr. and Mrs. C. A. McGill were going through divorce proceedings. Mrs. McGill wanted custody of the child to go to Mrs. Branson, but her husband contested and reported Mrs. Branson for kidnapping. At the conclusion of the preliminary trial, Mrs. Branson (right) and her mother, Mrs. O. H. Fincher (left) offered three boxes of baby clothes to Milly's mother, Mrs. C. A. McGill. Mrs. McGill exited the courtroom, refusing to accept the gifts. Mrs. Branson is wearing a dark dress and a fur lined coat. Mrs. Fincher is dressed in a collared blouse, skirt, and a coat.
