Description
Mrs. Melba Branson is arriving at the Fort Worth Police Station Friday night after officers returned her from Laredo, Texas. Mrs. Branson has been charged in the kidnapping case of Milly McGills. The three-week-old baby, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. C. A. McGill, was kidnapped on January 9, 1945. Mrs. Branson, eighteen, confessed to Detective Chief Grant that she took the baby at the request of the baby's mother. Mr. and Mrs. McGill were going through a divorce and Mrs. McGill wanted custody of the child to go to Mrs. Branson. Her estranged husband contested and reported Mrs. Branson for kidnapping. Mrs. Branson shown sitting on a bench. She is dressed in a collared blouse, blazer, skirt, and a fur coat. On February 22, a jury found Mrs. Branson "Not Guilty" on the charge of kidnapping.
