Description
Mrs. Tennie T. Combs is celebrating her ninetieth birthday in front of more than 150 guests. Her only son, T. M. Fly, held an open house in his mother's honor. Mrs. Combs received many gifts including the arrangements of cut flowers seen in the photograph. Mrs. Combs is standing behind her birthday cake, wearing a floral dress and a lace shawl around her shoulders. She was born in a covered wagon in a camp near Arp, Texas in 1855. Her parents, who were traveling from East Tennessee christened her Tennessee Texas Gann. Mrs. Combs keeps busy helping with housework, sewing, crocheting, making tatting, and reading.
