Description
Private First Class (Pfc.) Robert E. Lyons, is visiting his mother, Mrs. R. E. Lyons, 2704 Ryan, Fort Worth, Texas. Lyons is shown standing against a bare wall and smiling for the camera. He is wearing his military uniform that shows ribbon bar, medal and rank stripe on sleeve. He was hit in the leg by machine gun fire while helping to refill a truck with gasoline on the beach at New Guinea. He was sent to the hospital, but was back on the job in less than an hour. He holds the presidential unit citation with silver and bronze star, also the Purple Heart medal. This young soldier is owner of a farm on the Dallas Pike and planning to return to it as soon as "everything's over." Published in The Fort Worth Star-Telegram morning edition, December 3, 1944.
