Biggio Jr. of Dallas was advanced from the office of secretary and treasurer to that of president of the Texas Seedsmen's Association Wednesday at the concluding session of the group at Hotel Texas. He succeeds. W. C. Bigby of Fort Worth.Other newly elected Officers , all of whom will serve one-year terms, were Norman Clark of Harlingen, vice president; and M. D. Mosteller of Austin, secretary and treasurer.New directors named were Jim Locke of Wharton and Walter Baxter of Weslaco. The conference, which attracted an attendance of 175 with representatives from as far away as New Jersey and Delaware, was described by Biggio as the largest ever held by the association. That Texas farmers now have their choice of five excellent hybrids in seed corn was stressed by Minter Womack of Garland in the keynote address of the closing session. They have out yielded the best open-pollinated varieties by 10 to 50 per cent he said. While the cost of the seed is higher the production yield more than compensates for it, Womack declared. He pointed out, though, there will be only enough hybrid seed available in 1945 for 10 per cent of the 600,000 bushels of seed corn Texas farmers will need for the 5,000,000 acres to be planted in the state."Stamped: Star-Telegram Morn.
