A young man in Coast Guard the enlisted dress uniform, with several decoration ribbons on the breast and insignia patches on the sleeves and braid on his cuffs and collar. He is wearing a bracelet on his right wrist and a wrist watch on his left wrist. Clipping: "Coast Guardsman Is Visiting Wife. A veteran of eight Coast Guard amphibious operations in the Italian and Normandy campaigns, John McCurry, gunners' mate second class, who assisted in 12 successful landings in France on D-day, is spending a 30-day leave with his wife, at 520 Kentucky, and his mother, Mrs. Edna McCurry, 933 East Annie. During the invasion of Normandy McCurry was on an LCI [Landing Craft Infantry] that shuttled between England and France bringing fresh troops and evacuating the wounded. In the Italian campaign, he was on a combat Coast Guard cutter that escorted transport ships to the beaches. He also has the special rating of first class gun pointer. The 20-year-old sailor attended Diamond Hill High School before enlisting 2 1/2 hears ago. He will report to Savannah, Ga., by Nov. 25." Stamped Star-Telegram Eve. Nov. 24, 1944
