Marine Private First Class (Pfc.) Al Smith, veteran of the Pacific campaign is pictured here. A man is standing in front of a bare wall. He is wearing a uniform and a hat. He is smoking a cigarette and smiling for the camera. Private First Class (Pfc.) Smith is the son of Mr. and Mrs. E. Pitt Smith. He returned to this country after service in the Tarawa, Saipan and Tinian invasions and other combat duty in the Pacific. For its conspicuous combat service in the Pacific, his organization received two presidential citations. Published in Fort Worth Star-Telegram evening edition, October 31, 1944.
