Description

Mrs. John V. Beasley, Junior (Jr.) is shown with her souvenirs. Ivory chopsticks, a cocktail set, handkerchiefs, figurines, jewelry -- these are a few of the gifts that Mrs. John V. Beasley, Junior (Jr.), 1205 6th Avenue, Fort Worth, Texas, has received from her husband, a captain in the Veterinary Corps in China. From India, she has two cigaret cases, one black lacquer with a painted flower design and another of ivory with a sliding top. The extensive figurine collection includes natives in typical costumes and several hand-carved elephants. A crocheted lace blouse is among the larger articles from India, along with a large bedspread-sized piece of embroidered red silk and a mohair rug. The cocktail set, a shaker and six goblets with matching tray, is of hammered copper. Mrs. Beasley also has about a dozen dainty handkerchiefs, some table linens and a hammered silver cigaret box. From China came a nest of lacquered boxes, five in all, with floral decorations. A delicate teakwood and glass ornamental screen, broken en route, is being repaired. Jewelry that Captain Beasley has sent thus far is mostly silver filigree work, but several boxes of jade and silver earrings, necklaces, rings, and bracelets are on the way. Mrs. Beasley is sitting at a table and holding an oriental hand fan. Published in Fort Worth Star-Telegram morning edition, October 29, 1944.
